KUALA LUMPUR: An auction session of five special number plates and two pieces of designer jewellery saw RM149,000 being raised for five charity organisations.

The beneficiaries were Lembaga Kebajikan Perempuan Islam Malaysia, Yayasan Sri Kencana Kalsom, Kiwanis Club International, Sultan Ahmad Shah Environment Trust and Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF).

The auction was conducted during the Islamic Fashion Festival 2014 themed “Discover the Beauty of Modesty” held at a leading hotel here.

The guests of honour were the Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah and his consort Sultanah Pahang Sultanah Kalsom.

Also present were Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob and his wife Datuk Seri Junaini Kassim, Pahang state secretary Datuk Seri Muhammad Safian Ismail, MCPF national vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Pahang MCPF chairman Datuk Seri Johny Ch’ng Ewe Gee, Tahan assemblyman Datuk Wan Amizan Wan Abdul Razak, members of the royal family, businessmen, sponsors and other dignitaries.

The special number plates were sponsored by TAT Alliance Services Sdn Bhd chairman Tengku Fahd Mua’adzam Shah Sultan Ahmad Shah while the jewellery by Ceres Collection.

In her speech, Sultanah Kalsom thanked all parties for making the event a success and urged the public and the private sector to continue giving their full support towards charitable causes.

Later, Sultan Ahmad Shah cut a special birthday cake and unveiled a US-made Hummer vehicle with the number plate - SAS 2410 - presented to him to mark his 84th birthday this year and commemorate his 40th anniversary on the throne.

Ch’ng, who is also the TAT Alliance Services vice-chairman, said the special number plates series starting with SAS - an acronym for Sultan Ahmad Shah - were awarded to the company and was officially launched by the state ruler on July 24.

He said since the first day of bidding in September, the number plates were selling like “hot cakes.”
“Originally, the series was reserved for vehicles registered in Sabah and only expected to be launched some 60 years in the future.

“However, due to a special request in conjunction with Sultan Ahmad Shah’s 40th year on the throne, the Road Transport Department agreed to release the special SAS series,” he said.

SAS 1 to SAS 1000 is reserved only for state VVIPs, including Datuks and members of the royalty, while SAS 1001 to SAS 9999 is open for all.

Owners of the series will be presented with a special crest and could affix it on the front and back of their vehicle number plates complete with a certificate of ownership.

Ch’ng said part of the proceeds from the sales of the special number plates would go to the building fund for the construction of the proposed Wisma MCPF Pahang.

One of the successful bidders was BR Tour Agency managing director and Pahang MCA organising secretary Datuk Seri Lee Jin Xian, who took home the number SAS 2628.

The other four number plates up for auction were SAS 1911, SAS 7080, SAS 1314 and SAS 1811 and managed to fetch a price of between RM12,000 and RM22,000.

Sultan Ahmad Shah took over the reign from his late father Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Muadzam Shah in 1974.

He is the fifth ruler in the largest state in peninsular Malaysia.
