KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — The Automated Enforcement System (AES) will start operation from midnight at 14 hot spots to catch those exceeding speed limits and beating the red lights.

In the first phase, 14 cameras were installed in Perak, Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur with 10 of the cameras able to detect speeding while four more detect those beating the traffic light.
Road Transport Department (RTD) director-general, Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said more cameras would be installed at 817 hot locations under phase 2 which would see AES being implemented throughout the country.

He said the setting up of AES was a firm action by government to reduce the number of road accidents.
“AES cameras will be put up at deadly locations which recorded high road accident death rates,” he said in a statement tonight.

What is AES?
  1. Automatic enforcement of the continuity of the Road Safety Plan 2006-2010
  2. Ongoing efforts of road safety activists (JPJ, PDRM, RSD, Miros, PWD) focused on 4E (Engineering, Enforcement, Education and Environment). 
  3. Necessary adaptations enforcement system sustainable (sustainable) in driving change attitudes remain regardless of the rate of the vehicle, the driver or constraint enforcement. 
  4. Approach to systems based approach that could change the attitude of Malaysians driving.
  5.  A tracking system and automatically record traffic offenses using sensors installed on the road and using the wrong image recorder camera (picture and video) 
Number of AES Cameras Will Be Installed:
  • 556 speeding cameras
  • 265 traffic light cameras 265
  • The total number of cameras: 831
  • Mobile cameras (30%) 250 units - operating the cameras are easy to control areas misfortune that has no infrastructure (electrical supply, communications coverage and so on) for static cameras installed.
